It has participated in seven consecutive FIFA World Cups

The U.S. Men's Soccer Team was almost insignificant in international soccer up until 1982. Although the North American Soccer League existed in the 1960s/70s, it was not a significant force in international soccer. But that didn't stop U.S. football. 1982 was the first World Cup appearance for the United States. They were 1-1-1 after losing to Egypt on tiebreaker.

Since then, the soccer team has had a rich and varied history. U.S. football made their World Cup debut in 1990 and advanced to the quarterfinals twice. Today, the team is a leading force in the sport and has hosted three World Cups.

It has hosted two FIFA Women's World Cups.

The Women's World Cup was hosted by the United States in 1999. It was moved from China, where it had been hosted for the first-time in 1994. The bid was accepted and the U.S. soccer organization hosted the tournament. The U.S. women's team won U.S. Cup '95. This tournament saw the US beat Mexico 4-0, and tie Colombia. The women's team also came third, defeating Canada 3-0 and earning all star honors.

Apart from the World Cup, several international soccer events have been hosted by the US team, such as the Women's Olympic Games or the Pan-American Games. The international success of the US women's soccer team in the World Cup has helped them make great strides. Tobin Heath (Abby Wambach), Tobin Hart, Alex Morgan, April Heinrichs and Hope Solo are just a few of the well-respected names in women’s soccer.
