As the President of the San Diego Wave FC franchise (the newest in the National Women's Soccer League), she also serves. She will share her knowledge and insight on how to build a community and motivate people to work together towards a common goal.
Ellis has spent the past year working tirelessly to develop the program as well as solicit donations. The money Ellis raises will be used to help promising women coaches, who might otherwise not have the funds to pay for expensive licensing programs. Women will be assigned mentors to help them grow their professional networks and provide advice. It is anticipated that the program will sponsor around three dozen women within its first year.

Jill Ellis hailed from a country where women couldn't play competitive soccer. Margaret Ellis was her mother and opposed to her daughter's participation. At the time, playing soccer was not considered to be ladylike. As a teenager she moved to Virginia where she learned to play soccer.

She has a USSF Pro coaching licensure
Jill Ellis is a USSF Pro coach and has been a coach for over 20 years. Her career began at an early age when she played soccer for Robinson Secondary School. She later went on to win the state championship and the Under-21 Championship with her local team, the Braddock Road Bluebelles. She played college soccer at William and Mary University and was a All-American. Ellis earned her awards as a coach even though her playing days were during her early twenties.
Ellis has extensive sports management experience, in addition to her many years of coaching. She has held a variety of leadership positions, including the position of Development Director for the United States Soccer Federation. She was also assistant coach to the U.S. women’s team and coached youth women's soccer teams. Ellis was made interim head coach of senior women's national team in 2012. She served as an interim coach for two matches in 2014 and has a USSF Pro coaching licence.
