Maya Moore was part of the Georgia Metros 16U Nike Travel Team 2005 and 2006. Her team was 73-6 that season, and she won MVP honours. The team won four National Championships. She played with other young players who went on to play basketball at the college level, including Morgan Toles and D'Andra Moss. She was also a basketball player for the University of Connecticut women’s team.
Moore was a member of the 2012 U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball Team
Maya Moore was among four Minnesotans that competed in 2012 for the U.S. Olympic Basketball Team. She was second to be selected to the team. This helped the United States win their gold medal in 2012. In eight games, the U.S. women's basketball won six gold medals, two of which were in London.

Maya Moore has stated that she will not return to the WNBA courts this season. Last played for Minnesota Lynx in 2018, at the age of 25. Moore has been trying to get Jonathan Irons out of prison for his crimes at 16 years old.
Jonathan Irons, Moore’s husband, was convicted of a burglary in 2007 and a shooting in 2007.
Moore met Irons when she was visiting her godparents in Missouri. She also met her great-uncle, who introduced them the rest of their family. Irons was 16 when he was convicted for a burglary and shooting at a home owned by a white man. Stanley Stotler identified Irons, the victim, as a homeowner. He was sentenced to prison after he was convicted by a jury.
Moore proposed to Irons on the night he was freed
Moore proposed to Irons the night after a judge overturned Irons' conviction for aggravated attack. Irons' conviction was overturned by the judge after he mentioned problems with the case investigation. The couple are engaged and intend to create a foundation for wrongfully convicted persons. Moore intends to return to basketball this spring.
Moore is having a baby boy in the company of Irons
Maya Moore and Jonathan Irons have just announced the birth their first child. The baby boy was conceived in February 2022. The couple were married in 2020, after Jonathan was released. It is unknown if the couple still live together. Jonathan and Maya became close friends in prison.
