Dana White's sixth season Contender Series
The sixth season Dana White’s Contender Series has been released. Its premier date is Tuesday July 26th, at 8 PM ET. The program will air live on ESPN+, and is expected to air one episode per week. The UFC's newest fighters are scouted and offered contracts. The sixth season will include ten episodes.
The main event is for lightweights
The lightweight division is in a resurgence with two promising prospects battling for title shot. Rafael Alves and Ty Flores, both former UFC fighters, will be competing in the main event. Both are on an impressive four-fight winning streak. Rafael Alves, a former Titan FC interim lightweight champion, is currently a student at the MMA Masters South Florida. Miguel Baeza has been his mentor and he has witnessed his rise to stardom.
The co-main show will feature middleweights
The UFC 276 main event will feature two of best fighters from the division. The co-main event will feature No. Jack Hermansson is 6th in the rankings and No. Sean Strickland (7th rank). Both fighters hope to face reigning division champion Israel Adesanya. Hermansson has nine wins since 2016, winning six of his last eight fights. Strickland is on a five-fight winning streak and is hoping to continue that streak.
The comain event is the Welterweights
The co-main feature of the contender series features a fight featuring two former heavyweight champions. Both are undefeated. Bruno Assis (Brazilian challenger) will face Diaz. Assis beat a highly-rated competitor in March. The card will also feature two bantamweight fights. Mayra Bueno Silva will fight Wu Yanan, while Carlos Aldo will face a highly-rated middleweight prospect.
The co-main events will feature lightweights
The lightweight division will return for the second consecutive year, with one top prospect in the UFC facing another lightweight. Brendan Battles (28) vs Fred Grey (28-0, 2KOs) is the co-main of the contender series. The winner will earn a spot in the lightweight division's championship fight next year.
