Inspiring Athletes

There are many inspiring athletes. But some of them do more than just compete in sports. These athletes use their platform for social change. This article will look at a few of them: Serena Williams (Michael Phelps), Brittany Griner (Brittany Griner), and Mary Keitany. These athletes inspire us as we take action to become better people.

Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps is one the most famous athletes of all time. He turned pro as a teenager, and has won 28 Olympic medals over four Olympic Games, as well as 39 world records. Phelps also suffered from depression and is now a proponent for mental wellness and health. Phelps recently produced "The Weight of Gold," a HBO Sports documentary. Interviews with Olympians Greg Louganis and Greg Louganis are also featured in the film. Louganis is widely considered to be the greatest diver of all times.

Serena Williams

Serena Williams' impact on tennis has been immense and she has inspired many others. She is a strong voice that can be used to help others in need. She has helped build schools for underprivileged children and champion health care for women and newborns. She has also been a vocal opponent of gender violence and is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Brittany Griner

For many athletes, Brittany Griner's story is one of inspiration. Griner was bullied at school and once was called "a man". Griner thought about slitting the wrists to get rid of her feeling of being an outsider. Despite the negative comments, Griner persevered and became an Olympic gold medalist.


Mary Keitany

Keitany won TCS New York Marathon in 2018. After the race, she was certain she would win the New York City Marathon. Her motivation was to win for her children and show them how proud their mom is of them. Keitany managed to accomplish this despite all the difficulties she faced after having her first son.

Michael Oher

Michael Oher, a young man who was a nomad, lived his entire life as a nomad. The end of the first grades saw child services remove Michael Oher and his siblings from the home of their mother. They moved from foster homes to the couches of friends.

Althea Gibbons

Althea Gilison is an inspirational figure for all athletes, young and old. Born in Silver, South Carolina in 1927, Althea Gibson fought against inequalities in her community as well as in sports. In the end, she was the best female player in the entire world and became the first black woman to win Wimbledon.
