The World's Best Gymnasts

softball women''s

We've all seen a few of the world's top gymnasts. Some are more known than others. We've previously discussed Elfi Shlegal, Larisa Latynina (and Simone Biles). These women are among the most outstanding. We also discussed their impact on the world. These women are extraordinary and have had a profound impact on the sport and culture of the world.

Simone Biles

Simone Biles' dominance of the world gymnastics is hard to ignore. The 19 time world all-around champion now holds more world titles for female gymnasts than any other. Since the 1970s she's won more U.S. golds than any other gymnast. She currently has four eponymous abilities, with the possibility of adding another at the Tokyo Olympics.

Nadia Comaneci

Nadia Comaneci from Romania is an icon in the sport gymnastics. She was the first gymnast to score a perfect "10" at an Olympic competition in 1976. However, because of technical limitations, the scoreboard displayed a single "1" instead of the expected "10." Comaneci continued to win six perfect 10s and was awarded the title "best gymnast in history".

Larisa Latynina

Larisa Latynin (soccer) is a well-known athlete. She is an avid gymnast who actively participates with her country in its Olympic preparations. She served as the torchbearer in Beijing for the Winter Olympics 2006.

Elfi Schlegal

Elfi Schlal is one of Canada’s most successful gymnasts. She won a silver medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. Elfi, who graduated from the University of Utah in 1978, was still a member of Canada's National Gymnastics Team through 1985. Later, she covered the Olympic women's gymnastics contests at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. She also covered the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Svetlana Khorkina

Svetlana Khorkina was born on January 19, 1979, in Belgorod, Russia. She was one her top choices for the 2004 Athens Olympics. Russia also won the bronze medal at the team competition. She had been a member of the 1996 and 2000 Russian teams, which were among the top contenders. The 2004 Russian team, however, didn't have as much talent.

Kohei Uchimura

Kohei Umimura is considered one of Japan’s greatest gymnasts. The Japanese gymnastics team barely qualified for the Olympic games after the Uchimura was the only veteran on the team. He was last at his first competition but quickly established a training regimen and kept a detailed notebook of his techniques. He was 17 when he went to Tokyo to train. He was then selected to compete in the Olympics in Beijing in 2008. He took home seven medals.
